Travel Medical Insurance

Travelling can be great fun, but unfortunately accidents can happen, especially if you have chosen to ‘get active’ while on holiday. To ensure you receive essential and appropriate medical treatment– that doesn’t break the bank – if and when you need it, don’t leave home without travel insurance cover from Direct Line.

The last thing you want to think about when booking that fantastic trip away is what might happen if you have an accident or come down with a serious illness. However, if the worst happens while you’re away, you’ll be glad that you took out travel medical insurance that protects you against medical emergencies.

You might be unfortunate enough to break your leg while skiing. Or you might be struck down with severe tummy troubles, always a potential blight on any trip. If you’re undertaking a particular activity, you should also listen to your instructor or experts around you. Of course, by acting with precaution and care you may be able to avoid such medical issues. Some situations, however, cannot be avoided and you may simply suffer from a case of bad luck.

Direct Line’s great value range of Travel Insurance can help to take some of the worry out of possible medical emergencies when you travel. Whether you take out Single Trip, Annual Multi Trip or Discoverer Travel Insurance, you ensure that you are covered for ‘emergency medical treatment and travel abroad’. This provides medical cover of up to £5 million, which could provide for such situations as medical treatments (in or out of hospital), return travel back to the UK and expenses while you wait. Taking out optional winter sports cover is also wise if you are going skiing, as it could prove invaluable if you have an accident on the slopes.

It’s likely that you will be travelling with someone else on your trip. Your Direct Line Travel Insurance pays up to £2,000, including daily expenses, for them or another person to stay and travel with you if you need medical treatment. And if your journey has to be cut short or cancelled because they have a medical emergency, your Direct Line Travel Insurance also covers you for up to £5,000.

If you’re travelling in the UK – at least 25 miles away from your home, for two or more nights and staying in pre-arranged accommodation – your Direct Line Single Trip and Annual Multi Trip Travel Insurance will also cover you for medical emergencies. For example, it could cover your transfer by ambulance to a hospital near your home. It could also provide cover for a friend or relative to stay with you.

As with all travel medical insurance, you should ensure that you make us aware of any pre-existing conditions that you or a member of your family have, as the conditions could be covered free of charge. If you don’t, you won’t be fully covered, meaning you’ll have to pick up any medical costs associated with the pre-existing condition.
