The major concern for a woman driving her car must be her safety. A charged-up mobile phone with a breakdown cover number stored in the memory is a better option if your car has broken down than walking to a public phone (unless you’re on the motorway, as the public phones on the verge connect you directly to the police and pinpoint your location). Central-locking in your car is as effective for keeping unwanted persons out of your vehicle as it is for keeping children securely in.

Mechanical safety is also vital and it’s important to remember a few rules. Check your tyre pressure before going on a long journey. The washer bottle should be filled with the right mix of washer fluid and water, and naturally your car should have its MOT regularly to check that brakes and other safety equipment are functioning correctly. Regular servicing as specified by the manufacturer is also a good idea.

At school-run times, women are more likely to be driving with kids in the back of the car than men. There are chilling statistics about how many child car-seats are fitted wrongly by people who think they look right once they’re in – even if you’re certain you’ve fitted the seat properly, go back and have a look at the instructions to check. Always buy new car seats and if you’re in any doubt about the fitting go back to the shop and ask for their advice. If your child seat is damaged in an accident, be sure to alert us, as we will replace the seat to the same standard as the original one.
